TOWER ARMOURIES, LONDON
A GOOD .750 FLINTLOCK MUSKET, MODEL 'NEW LAND PATTERN', no visible serial number,
circa 1810, with blacked 39in. barrel, Tower proofs struck out and reproved in London when sold out of service, plain breech and colour-hardened top-tang, military type 6 1/2in. lock signed 'TOWER' on the tail (rubbed) and with a 'G.R.' and crown device below pan, ring-necked cock, walnut 'shotgun'-style full-stock without an apron around the top-tang (armourer's repairs around the lock) and fitted with brass furniture including a trumpet mouth ramrod pipe to the fore and complete with an iron under-barrel ramrod, the whole refinished at time of sale, overall length 55in., weight approximately 9 3/4lbs. and fitted with a buff leather sling

Provenance: The New Land Pattern Light Infantry Musket was approved in 1803 but due to the urgent need for muskets the production of the India Pattern Musket took precedence and delayed its introduction. An order was finally placed for 20,000 muskets, spread throughout the Birmingham trade in 1811. The actual number made is uncertain, but they are rarely found today and it would appear not many survived
